Kiryat Shmona

Writing the Next Chapter of Israel’s Northernmost City

Kiryat Shmona is on the cusp of a defining historic moment.

As the entire northern region navigates its current challenges, bringing in new families is not merely a demographic goal – it is a profound step toward rebuilding trust, creating a new horizon for the entire north, and strengthening Israel’s national resilience.

MAKOM has chosen to operate in the heart of the city to ensure that the renewal of the north grows from within a strong, young, and deeply committed community.

Establishing a Future, Growing a Community

A joint initiative with the Ministry of the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, as part of a strategic effort to rebuild and strengthen Kiryat Shmona through the development of long-term community and demographic infrastructure.

The initiative works to establish, integrate, and support both new and existing communities in the city, strengthen social resilience, and position Kiryat Shmona as a vibrant and attractive city for young people and families. It serves as a coordinating body, bringing together communities, the local municipality, civil society organizations, and government ministries.

The initiative’s primary goal is to bring hundreds of new families to Kiryat Shmona in the coming months and generate significant demographic growth. This will be achieved by creating a strong social and community support network designed to encourage families to put down roots and remain in the city for the long term, while connecting education, community life, culture, and civic engagement.

At the heart of this model are 10 “welcoming communities”: five communities that are already established and active in Kiryat Shmona, alongside five new welcoming communities that will be developed.

The 300 Lab

A concrete action plan to absorb hundreds of households by systematically removing barriers in education, housing, and employment.

Information Sessions

A series of monthly gatherings that foster open dialogue about the responsibility and sense of purpose involved in moving to the city.

Building a Social Core

Fostering deep connections between long-time residents and new families to create a single, cohesive community.

Come be a part of the next chapter of the North!
